BANDERA DRILLING CO. INC., was formed in October 1975 by Ray and Ann Brazzel in Abilene, Texas. Ray started working in the oilfield in 1956 learning all facets of operation. Ann was an elementary teacher who learned office management through trial and error. Together, with Ann keeping books on the kitchen table and Ray working in the field, they began a journey that continues today.
From 1975-1982 a total of nine rigs were acquired or manufactured. Bandera was drilling wells in Texas for multiple companies. During this time a trucking operation was started that grew to a fleet of 22 trucks. Ray also formed partnerships establishing fourteen oil related corporations.
When the industry began to slow in 1982, BanderaХs growth followed suit. Operations decreased in January 1988 from nine to five drilling units. The supply and trucking departments were downsized to accommodate the reduced needs. In the days and years to follow Bandera proved to be a survivor growing in quality on a daily basis.
In March 2004 the International Association of Drilling Contractors recognized Ray and Ann Brazzel as ТContractors of the YearУ. This coveted award is presented annually to those who have achieved excellence in the industry. It was during this period that Ray began planning a new generation drilling unit. Purchasing of parts and manufacturing began at the Abilene facility. When an offer to purchase BanderaХs drilling units materialized in March 2006, Ray had an opportunity to put all his energy and attention to his dream for the new generation rigs.
In July 2006 the first new rig was put in the field. Since that time two more units have been manufactured with more in various stages. Upgrades and modifications have been ongoing operations as Ray and his management team strive to design the ideal structure that will work with efficiency and safety and can be moved from location to location with precision and ease.
Today, Bandera is a strong company continuing to provide unique services in Texas while maintaining a reputation for safety, service, dependability and quality through out the oil industry.
